"No one believed in us or me. Thank you for always being here and showing me what I can do!”- A student in the program."

Program Details

Building on themes of courage in the literature we produce, “Champions for Life Building” enables Prime Stage and participating teachers to help at-risk, urban students see worlds and the potential beyond the walls and windows of their school and community.

Through this year-long during or after-school program, we go beyond providing artistic and entertainment experiences.

Each year, the teachers identify a cohort of 10 to 15 students who show potential but have academic or personal challenges to overcome. The Prime Stage team helps students identify their personal career interests and build their confidence by:

  • Enriching their lives with opportunities and connections that are not immediately available to them
  • Encouraging them to discover and celebrate their own self-worth
  • Providing long term mentors based on the students’ career passions
  • Inspiring them to discover what they have to offer society, not what they are told to offer.

Students and faculty meet the cast on the set of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
